About us
As an institute dedicated to the energy transition, we design and lead innovative research projects aimed at overcoming the challenges faced by the offshore wind sector. To meet the different needs of stakeholders in the sector, we offer a range of collaboration options.
Our Institute develops tested-and-tried software, standards and methodologies that enhance the competitiveness, sustainability and attractiveness of the offshore wind sector. To this end, we design and lead multi-partner research projects bringing together public and private stakeholders, facilitating the transfer of knowledge to companies within the sector. This collaborative research aims to address the technological, environmental and socio-economic challenges of offshore wind energy. It draws on our multidisciplinary team of 90 staff, our network of international experts and our unique facilities. We offer a range of collaboration options tailored to the needs of companies across the value chain and the sector.

Since our creation, we have been committed to taking into account the unique characteristics of coasts and the specific needs of each region. In addition to our headquarters in Brittany, we have a presence along the Atlantic, Channel and Mediterranean coasts. This proximity to pilot and commercial wind farms is a major asset in developing partnerships with industrial stakeholders.
The R&D carried out by France Energies Marines takes the form of national and European collaborative projects, as well as sector-specific programmes. These projects enable the pooling of research, associated risks and project costs. They are long-term initiatives designed to have a lasting impact. The resulting outcomes are intended to be transferred to stakeholders in the offshore wind sector.
The Institute is built around a broad public-private partnership comprising 27 members. These are key players in the offshore wind sector: industry, academic and scientific institutions, local authorities and competitiveness clusters. Consequently, the Institute is governed by bodies comprising entities from both the public and private sectors. This enables the Institute to maintain a strong alignment between its strategic direction and the needs of the industry.
The results of our research are shared with stakeholders in the offshore wind sector. This is achieved through the provision of research and expertise services, licensing agreements, the transfer of know-how, bespoke training, and participation in expert committees and networks.

The evaluation process is not simply a box-checking exercise, it’s a real opportunity to discuss the content.
It was very important for us to be truly involved in the project to give substance to the partnership dimension in which we strongly believe.
Another key strength of this Committee was that it is made up of researchers from different backgrounds, laboratories and countries. This leads to very rich and stimulating discussions.
We had to argue that we were on a growth trajectory and that we would soon become an institute of reasonable size.
That pioneering period was an exhilarating human adventure that will remain a highlight of my professional career.
The direction we had initially envisaged has changed, but the result is exactly what we had hoped for. We can be proud of that!
