About us

Our locations

Given our nationwide focus, we take into account the specific characteristics of the French coasts and local stakeholders. Our proximity is a major asset, which we put into practice through strategic locations.

Locations as close as possible to the coastlines

Since our creation, we have been committed to taking into account the unique characteristics of coastal areas and the specific needs of local regions. Indeed, in addition to our head office in the Brittany, we have regional offices on the Atlantic, Channel and Mediterranean coasts. By focusing on this proximity, we support the development of fixed and floating offshore wind energy as closely as possible to pilot and commercial projects.

Headquarters

Since 2012, France Energies Marines has had its headquarters in Plouzané, near Brest. The institute quickly became part of the Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique and the Technopôle Brest-Iroise. It is now located in the Cap Océan building, a landmark of the Campus Mondial de la Mer. These facilities foster collaboration between research and the marine and maritime industries. This has further strengthened synergies with the local ecosystem.

Atlantic Office

Created in 2017, the Atlantic Office is located in Nantes, within the Eraudière business park. With all of the Institute’s R&D departments represented there, it is well-positioned to propose interdisciplinary projects and to participate in different events along the Atlantic coast. Several PhD and postdoctoral researchers, based at partner laboratories in the Loire region, strengthen the synergy with research organisations and businesses.

Mediterranean Office

Created in 2019, the Mediterranean Office is expanding with a multidisciplinary team based in Marseille. It is located on the campus of the École Centrale Méditerranée, in the heart of the city. Partner laboratories in the SUD Provence-Alpes-Côted’Azur and Occitanie regions host and co-supervise PhD and post-doctoral students. A partnership with the Pôle Mer Méditerranée also strengthens collaboration between research organisations and businesses within the two regions.

Eastern Channel - North Sea Office

Opened in late 2022, this office is located on the premises of Université Le Havre Normandie. It supports the development of offshore wind energy off the coast of Normandy. Its local roots enabled the launch in 2023 of a major research programme. It aims to study the interactions between offshore wind and the marine environment and relies on instrumentation installed on a met mast located off Fécamp.

South Atlantic Bureau

Since 2025, France Energies Marines has had a bureau in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, based in Pau at the heart of the Hélioparc technology park. The purpose of this bureau is to strengthen the regional network of offshore wind energy stakeholders and to provide targeted support on strategic issues facing the sector.

Unique testing and monitoring facilities on each coast

To carry out our research and innovation work, we rely on a network of unique infrastructures, both our own and through partnerships. Our unique offshore testing and monitoring facilities are located along every coastline. They enable us to conduct long-term offshore observations and experiments. Indeed, it is crucial for the sector to have access to data collected in the field. This data is thus obtained under conditions that reflect real-world scenarios. This offering complements that provided by our network of private and public partners. Together, this represents real added value in de-risking the development of offshore wind energy.
