Under what circumstances was the Scientific and Technological Committee established?

In 2018, when we moved from calls for proposals to the process known as the annual R&D review, we had to find an alternative to having our projects assessed by experts from the National Research Agency. We therefore set up an international Scientific & Technological Committee comprising independent experts.

What is the role of its members?

The members of this Committee are tasked with conducting a critical review of our roadmap and making recommendations for improving the R&D projects led by France Energies Marines. On this last point, they are asked to assess the scientific quality of the topics addressed and the consortia formed, as well as the appropriate allocation of human and financial resources. The advisory opinion they provide is forwarded to the Institute’s Board of Directors, which selects the projects to be funded.

How are they chosen?

The experts on our Scientific and Technological Committee are selected for their experience in industry and/or in applied R&D projects. They are leading figures in their fields of expertise who work at prestigious international institutions. As such, they have a clear understanding of how our work impacts the expectations of stakeholders in the offshore wind sector. The Committee members are replaced regularly, as their commitment to supporting the Institute is strong and we should not always rely on the same people.
