Our R&D team dedicated to offshore wind
Our Institute brings together 25% of France’s workforce dedicated to R&D and innovation in offshore wind. Its strengths include an effective cutting-edge approach, a detailed understanding of regional specificities and a network of international experts.
A multidisciplinary R&D team for offshore wind
Our team of 90 employees brings together key skills in several complementary disciplines. This enables us to support the sector on a range of issues that are interdependent when dealing with specific cases. This clearly illustrates the value of a cutting-edge approach, whether for R&D projects or services.
The scientists in our team are divided into four departments according to their profiles. These departments cover a wide range of disciplines, from physical oceanography to biology, hydrodynamics and electrical engineering. In addition, our team has strong expertise in numerical modelling, artificial intelligence and sea trials. Several support functions reinforce this team, which is 100% dedicated to R&D for offshore wind sector.
Close ties with local offshore wind energy stakeholders
Since our creation, we have been committed to consider the specific characteristics of coasts and the needs of local communities. To this end, we have established a local presence. In addition to our headquarters in Brittany, we have Atlantic, Channel and Mediterranean offices. Our proximity to pilot and commercial wind farms is a real asset in developing synergies with industry of the sector.
We also have academic partnerships that enable our team to strengthen the excellence of our offshore wind R&D. Our regional roots allow us to consistently align our activities with the expectations of the blue economy and to set up regional projects.
A strong connection with a network of key experts
While our team has developed cutting-edge expertise in offshore wind R&D, our scientists also know how to surround themselves with talent. France Energies Marines brings together a national network of experts recognised by their peers. These scientists are part of research teams attached to universities, engineering schools, public institutions and SMEs.
We also cultivate fruitful collaborations with several key R&D players worldwide. This is particularly the case for DTU, FLOWRA, Fraunhofer IWES, IFP Energies Nouvelles, NLR, PNNL, SINTEF, Supergen ORE, and Tecnalia.

Tessa CHEVALLIER

Tessa CHEVALLIER
Tessa holds a engineering degree in data science specializing in biostatistics from École Nationale de la Statistique et de l’Analyse de l’Information in Rennes, France. She joined France Energies Marines in 2024 to study the impact of climate change on wind resource in the framework of the 2C NOW R&D project. She is currently pursuing a PhD which focuses on quantifying uncertainties related to climate change and its application to offshore wind energy as part of the 2C MORE project.

Marion COQUELET

Marion COQUELET
With over seven years of experience, Marion holds a master’s degree in mechanical engineer obtained in 2018 from the Faculté Polytechnique de Mons in Belgium. She also holds a PhD in engineering sciences obtained in 2022 through a joint program between Université catholique de Louvain and Université de Mons. She joined the Technische Universiteit Delft, The Netherlands, in 2023 for an 18-month postdoctoral position.
Through her academic research focused on numerical experimentation of control strategies for wind turbines, she gained expertise in medium- and high-fidelity numerical tools for loads and wakes simulations. She has also developed expertise in innovative control methods to reduce fatigue loads and wake effects. Since 2025, she has been a researcher, in atmospheric modelling for offshore wind at France Energies Marines, deepening her knowledge in wake and atmospheric flow modeling through R&D projects such as FARWAKES and 2C MORE. She is also technical sales engineer for Wind and Ocean Dynamics topics.

Alice COURTET
In 2025, Alice graduated with an engineering degree from École Nationale du Génie de l’Eau et de l’Environnement de Strasbourg, France, and also holds a master’s degree in coastal and port engineering from the University of Cantabria in Santander, Spain. Following her final internship at France Energies Marines as part of the DIMPACT+ R&D project, Alice continued as a R&D engineer on a fixed-term contract for the same project. Her work focuses primarily on the simulation of breaking waves and the analysis of their impact. She is based in Chatou, at the Laboratoire d’Hydraulique de Saint-Venant, a joint facility between EDF R&D and the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées.

Jean DUBRANNA
With over 10 years of experience, Jean holds a PhD in physical oceanography, complemented by a European advanced master’s degree in renewable energy. He began his career as a research engineer at the CNRS. Then, he joined the Ecole des MINES ParisTech in the same type of position where, among other responsibilities, he initiated and coordinated the IREMARE project on the high-resolution characterization of marine renewable energy resources along the French coast. Since 2021, Jean has been working at France Energies Marines and currently holds the position of offshore wind project manager. In this role, he has deepened his knowledge in characterizing wind energy potential through his participation in various R&D projects such as CASSIOWPE and FARWAKES, as coordinator.

Youen KERVELLA
Youen has an academic background with a PhD in hydrodynamics. He was the R&D director of a private company, Open Ocean, for 8 years, and performed a lot of studies on numerical modelling, metocean statistics and offshore potential computation for offshore renewable energy sector stakeholders. He joined France Energies Marines in 2019 to manage the site characterisation module of the DTOCEAN+ European project. He is also involved as the manager of the French resources centre for ORE development RESCORE. He was then involved as the manager of RESCORE, the digital platform for data and tools developed by France Energies Marines. He coordinates the 2C MORE R&D project, and previously 2C NOW, which aims to assess the impact of climate change on offshore wind.

Mathieu LANDREAU
Mathieu holds a master’s degree in energetics obtained from the Université d’Orléans in 2022. He completed a PhD in physics of the atmosphere at École centrale de Nantes in 2025, where he has deepened his knowledge of numerical modeling of the atmospheric boundary layer in coastal area. He joined France Energies Marines in 2026 at the position of researcher in atmosphere modeling.

Sacha LE PAGE
Now a PhD student in hydrodynamics at France Energies Marines, Sacha is a research engineer with eight years of experience. A graduate of INSA Rennes in mechanical and automatic engineering, then of ENSTA’s specialised master’s degree in marine renewable energy, he built an international career between the United States and Sweden before joining Ifremer. At Ifremer, he contributed to the development of an innovative method for reconstructing free surfaces in test tanks using a stereo video system. Since 2024, Sacha has been conducting experimental research as part of the DIMPACT+ project, dedicated to studying the forces generated by breaking waves through wave flume tests. His work lies at the intersection of hydrodynamics, the development of advanced experimental measurement methods and the challenges of offshore wind turbine design.

Fabien LECKLER
With over 10 years of experience, Fabien holds a degree in environmental monitoring and management, complemented by a PhD in ocean physics obtained from the École Doctorale des Sciences de la Mer in Brest, France, in 2013. He began his career at the French Naval Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service as a sea state expert, where he carried out different types of missions: setting up sea campaigns including data analysis and processing, improving the Vigilance Vagues Submersions operational system in partnership with Météo-France, participation in various civil and military research projects, and expertise to several French government departments. Fabien has been with France Energies Marines since 2020 and currently holds the position of metocean R&D engineer. In this role, he has deepened his knowledge of modelling wave impacts on offshore structures, modelling cyclonic sea states and ocean-wave-atmosphere interaction through his participation in various R&D projects such as DIME, DIMPACT, DIMPACT+, CASSIOWPE, and OROWSHI
