Our R&D team dedicated to offshore wind
Our Institute brings together 25% of France’s workforce dedicated to R&D and innovation in offshore wind. Its strengths include an effective cutting-edge approach, a detailed understanding of regional specificities and a network of international experts.
A multidisciplinary R&D team for offshore wind
Our team of 90 employees brings together key skills in several complementary disciplines. This enables us to support the sector on a range of issues that are interdependent when dealing with specific cases. This clearly illustrates the value of a cutting-edge approach, whether for R&D projects or services.
The scientists in our team are divided into four departments according to their profiles. These departments cover a wide range of disciplines, from physical oceanography to biology, hydrodynamics and electrical engineering. In addition, our team has strong expertise in numerical modelling, artificial intelligence and sea trials. Several support functions reinforce this team, which is 100% dedicated to R&D for offshore wind sector.
Close ties with local offshore wind energy stakeholders
Since our creation, we have been committed to consider the specific characteristics of coasts and the needs of local communities. To this end, we have established a local presence. In addition to our headquarters in Brittany, we have Atlantic, Channel and Mediterranean offices. Our proximity to pilot and commercial wind farms is a real asset in developing synergies with industry of the sector.
We also have academic partnerships that enable our team to strengthen the excellence of our offshore wind R&D. Our regional roots allow us to consistently align our activities with the expectations of the blue economy and to set up regional projects.
A strong connection with a network of key experts
While our team has developed cutting-edge expertise in offshore wind R&D, our scientists also know how to surround themselves with talent. France Energies Marines brings together a national network of experts recognised by their peers. These scientists are part of research teams attached to universities, engineering schools, public institutions and SMEs.
We also cultivate fruitful collaborations with several key R&D players worldwide. This is particularly the case for DTU, FLOWRA, Fraunhofer IWES, IFP Energies Nouvelles, NLR, PNNL, SINTEF, Supergen ORE, and Tecnalia.

Meet the team behind our offshore wind R&D
Cécile BON

Cécile BON
With over 15 years of experience, Cécile holds a degree in ecology and evolution, complemented by a PhD in marine ecology with a specialisation in ornithology obtained from the Université de La Rochelle in 2016. She began her career at Réserves Naturelles de France as scientific research associate where she contributed to projects on coastal shorebird population dynamics in protected natural areas before joining Office Français de la Biodiversité (OFB) as marine environment and public policy support officer.
Cécile joined France Energies Marines in 2020, where she is currently a researcher and a project manager on birdlife and offshore wind interactions. In this role, she has participated and continues to participate actively in several projects such as DRACCAR-MMERMAID, SEMAFOR or AVOCET. Since 2025, she is also in charge of developing the Institute’s activity regarding the South Atlantic Coast.

Paul CARVAILLO
Paul is an engineer specialized in bioacoustics and signal processing. He holds an engineering degree with a specialization in vibrations and acoustics, a master’s degree in ethology, and a State-certified diploma in advanced bioacoustics. He worked for six years as an acoustic modelling and/or testing engineer for various industrial companies (Sercel, Faurecia, Volvo) before specializing in bioacoustics (ENES, ReefPulse). Paul develops Python algorithms — including AI models — to analyse and classify soundscapes and extract ecological value from acoustic data. He joined France Energies Marines in 2024, where he develops acoustic data management tools and processing methods to support the monitoring of marine mammals around offshore wind farms.

Lydie COUTURIER
Lydie is a marine ecologist, specialised in the interactions between marine ecosystems and offshore renewable energies. Trained at the University of Queensland, Australia, she holds a Bachelor of Science with honours (first class) and a PhD in marine science. Her thesis focused on the biology and ecology of manta rays in Western Australia, with an integrative approach combining photo-identification, acoustic telemetry, satellite telemetry and ecological markers. The aim was to model population dynamics and identify key functional areas for the species. In 2015, she joined the Université d’Aix-Marseille to teach marine ecology, before joining one year later the LEMAR Laboratory of Université de Bretagne Occidentale., where she studied the trophic interactions of tropical tuna on a global scale using ecological markers.
Since 2020, Lydie has been working at France Energies Marines, where she contributes to several research projects on the ecological impacts of offshore wind. She is the scientific leader of the R&D collaborative projects FISHOWF and FISHOWF+, and co-leader of the work package on mobile marine fauna as part of the DRACCAR-MMERMAID project. She represents France Energies Marines in several European projects, including NorTrack, DTO Track and Interreg FISH INTEL.
She is also an active participant in the international working group Working Together to Resolve Environmental Effects of Wind Energy (WREN), dedicated to research on the environmental effects of wind energy. She has also contributed to producing bibliographic reviews on the state of knowledge of marine ecosystems and the potential effects of offshore development (ECOSYSM-EOF and RT-MARHA projects) and led expert committees of the COME3T initiative. Lydie is well integrated into the international and French networks of fish experts as well as solid scientific expertise on marine fish fauna and the associated monitoring resources.

Juliette DELAVENNE

Juliette DELAVENNE
Juliette is a marine ecologist with a PhD from the Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale, France. She has more than 15 years of experience conducting marine environment monitoring studies. She has a strong expertise in scientific and technical project management, as well as in benthic habitat ecology and field sampling methods. At the French Office Français de la Biodiversité (OFB), she was scientific manager of the Life Marha project for five years, which enabled her to acquire solid expertise in project management and public policy applied to the marine environment.
She also has extensive knowledge of issues related to monitoring and assessing the conservation status of ecosystems facing various anthropogenic pressures. Juliette has a wide range of expertise, enabling her to take a holistic approach, from benthic habitats to fisheries ecology, marine mammals and birds. She joined France Energies Marines in 2023. She is currently project manager for the DRACCAR-MMERMAID R&D project. She is also technical sales engineer for Wildlife & Interactions topics.

Matthieu DUSSAUZE
Matthieu has a PhD in marine biology specialising in ecotoxicology and chemical risks related to offshore renewable energies. His work aims to identify and understand the molecular, cellular and functional mechanisms underlying the phenotypic plasticity of aquatic species subject to environmental pressures, like global change and pollution, using studies carried out at different levels of biological integrations. These studies cover different components of marine ecosystems: water column and sediments, temperate, tropical, polar and deep environments. Matthieu focuses on various model species: bacteria, corals, crustaceans and teleost. The purpose of these studies is, among other things; to carry out chemical risk analyses in connection with the deployment of offshore wind

Karine HEERAH
Understanding the impacts of environmental changes and human activities on marine species and ecosystems is essential for adopting appropriate conservation and management approaches. In this context, Karine has developed her profile as a quantitative marine ecologist. She has extensively studied habitat use, behavioural ecology, and feeding patterns of marine megafauna (pinnipeds, seabirds, and fish) in relation to their environment (biotic, abiotic, and human activities) using movement data collected by bio-logging devices. Karine is now expanding her research to include other instrumentation methods and methodological tools for monitoring marine megafauna populations. She particularly utilizes innovative technological and analytical developments to address fundamental and applied ecological questions within a multidisciplinary research environment. Karine is the scientific leader of DRACCAR-MMERMAID R&D project

Sybill HENRY
With over 5 years of experience, Sybill holds a multidisciplinary master’s degree in coastal environment assessment and management obtained from the Université de Bretagne Occidentale in 2015. She began her career at the Inter-Regional Sea Directorates as a sea and coastal project manager, where she coordinated and implemented the Marine Strategic Framework Directive. She then joined the Université de Bretagne Occidentale as a research and project manager, where she contributed to various research projects on a range of topics (maritime spatial planning, stakeholder engagement in public policy, cultural, natural and intangible heritage, etc.).
Since 2021, Sybill has been working at France Energies Marines and currently holds the position of research and scientific mediation engineer. In this role, she leads and provides scientific mediation for the COME3T initiative. She also deepen her knowledge of the interactions between marine ecosystems and the development of offshore wind farms through involvement in several R&D projects funded by EU, like MESP Med, or led by France Energies Marines, such as NESTORE.
