Intrinsically linked to our mission, this enables us to design and offer unique, relevant solutions with high added value.
This is deeply embedded within our team, and more broadly within our members and partners, as collaborative R&D is one of the pillars of our activity.
It guides all our actions. Every day, we cultivate high-quality work and exchanges that strengthen our cutting-edge expertise.
With 90 employees, our team accounts for 25% of the French workforce dedicated to research and innovation in offshore wind. Our organisation into thematic departments linked by cross-disciplinary expertise gives us a great deal of agility. This multidisciplinary approach is a real strength that is highly valued both internally and by our various partners. It enables France Energies Marines to take an integrated approach to a wide range of specialised topics, ensuring international recognition.
In 2018, France Energies Marines established a selection process for new projects promoting excellence and innovation. This process consists of three phases: identifying priority industrial topics, proposing preliminary projects, and setting up projects. These projects are evaluated by a committee of independent international experts who contribute to the Institute’s strategic direction. Thanks to this rigorous approach, France Energies Marines produces results whose quality is internationally recognised.
Although we carry out high-quality digital work, it remains essential to acquire field data. A large number of our staff therefore regularly conduct innovative testing or measurement campaigns in laboratories, basins, canals or at sea. This is where the applied nature of our research comes into its own. It is one of the driving forces behind our team’s motivation.

France Energies Marines is committed to improving well-being at work on a daily basis, as this is a key factor in employee engagement and retention. This commitment is based on a number of complementary prerequisites: supportive management, recognition of the quality of work performed, regular opportunities for discussion, and pleasant premises with communal areas.
Aware that well-being also depends on job security, the management of our Institute favours permanent employment contracts as much as possible in order to provide greater stability and visibility for its team. The salary policy aims to provide appropriate and fair remuneration. An annual review allows us to consider the impact of inflation and, where applicable, the achievement of pre-set objectives.
Convinced that gender equality is an important driver of performance, our Institute is fully committed to this issue. Across its entire workforce, France Energies Marines has 46% women and 54% men, as well as perfect gender parity within its management team, which is rare enough to be worth highlighting.
Giving everyone a chance is a strong commitment at France Energies Marines. Our Institute encourages the expression of talent through training and skills development. Employees’ career development wishes are collected each year during individual interviews and then matched with the company’s needs and prospects.
In 2019, the option to work remotely was included in our company agreement. To date, 80% of employees have taken advantage of this provision. The vast majority work remotely two days a week, the maximum allowed.
« Grâce une détermination permanente, l’Institut a démontré sa capacité à créer une synergie entre les acteurs et ainsi acquis une vraie légitimité pour accompagner la filière. Les orientations que nous imaginions au départ ont changé, mais le résultat est exactement celui que nous escomptions. Nous pouvons nous en féliciter ! »
Vincent Denby Wilkes, Président de France Energies Marines de 2012 à 2015
