Project
FLOATFARM
Developing the next generation of environmentally-friendly floating wind farms
- Duration: 48 months (2024 - 2027)
- Budget: 6 M€
Motivation & background
FLOATFARM will bring the technologies developed within FLOATECH to the next level of technological readiness, complementing them with a significant number of new concepts, innovations and methods, in order to make FOW enter a new phase of industrial maturity.
In addition, FLOATFARM will pay special attention towards decreasing the negative environmental impacts on marine life and to enhancing the public acceptability of FOW farms.
Objectives
Significantly advance the maturity of FOW technology by increasing energy production and achieving important cost reductions at all levels within the design and implementation phases.
Contribute to decreasing the negative environmental impacts on marine life and to enhancing the public acceptability of FOW farms.
Scientific content
Developing innovative technologies for individual FOW turbines, aiming to address sustainability and economic challenges.
Development and demonstration of technologies applicable to multiple turbines within a FOW farm, emphasizing synergy between components and optimisation to simplify practical implementation.
Assessment of environmental and socioeconomic impacts of FOW farms through model development, data collection, and scenario analysis.
Expected results
- Lowering the LCOE of FOWTs
Improving FOWT marine component design - Demonstrating offshore farm-level performance optimisation
- Demonstrating shared mooring and anchoring concepts
- Reducing negative environmental impact and improving social perception
