OUPS - Ocean Under Pressures

With OUPS, dive into the heart of the ocean and explore the challenges facing marine ecosystems. In this serious game, you collaboratively build the ecosystem of the Eastern English Channel, then observe how the food web evolves under human-induced pressures. Your mission? Protect the species while maintaining the balance and resilience of the ecosystem. Every choice matters: managing predator–prey relationships, ensuring each species’ nutrition, anticipating disturbances… An immersive and educational experience where learning goes hand in hand with strategy and cooperation.

Understanding how a food web functions, grasping the direct and indirect effects of pressures, and discovering the value of studying impacts at the ecosystem scale.

Facilitators guide participants throughout the game and provide knowledge through key concepts (food webs, anthropogenic pressures, ecosystem resilience). They answer questions and encourage cooperation.

Activities delivered as part of Master’s-level training courses (IPF School, École Centrale, etc.) and at French public outreach events such as the Fête de la Science, the Festival of the Camargue, and during the exhibition La Bretagne à pleine puissance, included in the public programme of FOWT.

Avoid, reduce and compensate for the impacts of offshore wind farms

This serious game puts you in the role of decision‑makers tasked with developing offshore renewable energies (ORE) while complying with the regulatory sequence Avoid – Reduce – Compensate (ERC). Through three rounds of play corresponding to these key stages, you must identify areas suitable for ORE development while avoiding the most sensitive zones, install facilities while reducing impacts, and finally compensate for unavoidable impacts through appropriate measures. The challenge? Finding the right balance between the development of offshore renewable energies and the preservation of environmental and socio‑economic interests. An immersive experience designed to understand regulatory constraints and the trade‑offs required for the energy transition.

Where is Fernande?

This serious game takes you to the heart of seabird monitoring. By annotating videos recorded by the measurement instruments on the Fécamp mast, you will discover the challenges and issues involved in the scientific monitoring of seabird populations at sea.

Your objective? Observe and identify the birds featured in the videos, first on your own, and then with the support of artificial intelligence. This approach will help you understand how digital tools can support researchers in processing and analysing complex datasets.
