Tidal sites are, by definition, places where the strongest tidal currents are found. They usually flow over complex rocky bathymetries that generate intense turbulent motions. To understand the turbulent nature of this flow is critical for maximising tidal turbine yield and minimising structural fatigue. Development of the tidal energy industry would benefit from improved knowledge of turbulent flow properties.
