Rise in power in the Mediterranean
Published on 25/01/2022
Created in April 2019, the Mediterranean office of France Energies Marines is growing rapidly. Six employees have been based in Marseille since the end of 2021, on the site of the Ecole Centrale de Marseille. Several PhD students and post-doctoral research fellows are also housed in partner laboratories in the SUD Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Occitanie regions. This dynamic reflects the Institute’s desire to support the development of floating wind energy as close as possible to pilot and commercial projects.
The team has begun to build partnerships with local stakeholders in order to carry out research, development and innovation activities that respond to the specific challenges of this coastline. In addition to these projects, the team members support local authorities by contributing to the public debate and participating in expert committees. Another strong signal of the partnerships that France Energies Marines is building with local stakeholders is the contribution to training activities, in particular the specialised Master’s degree in marine engineering and offshore wind energy run by the Ecole Centrale de Marseille in partnership with SeaTech, the engineering school of the University of Toulon.
We would like to thank our members located on the Mediterranean coastline for their support: Ecole Centrale de Marseille, Ifremer, Office Français de la Biodiversité, Pôle Mer Méditerranée, Région Occitanie and Région SUD Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.
