Job Description

France Energies marines is part of the European project DTOCEANPLUS. This project develops and demonstrates a suite of 2nd generation of advanced design tools for the selection, development and deployment of ocean energy systems, aligning innovation and development processes with those used in mature engineering sectors. The Institute is responsible for the development of three modules:

  • Site Characterisation: processing of environmental data;
  • Station Keeping: design of mooring systems and foundations of fixed and floating structures;
  • Environmental and Social Acceptance: environmental and socio-economic impact assessment.

France Energies marines also leads the GEOSISMEM project, aiming at developing a new soil characterization methodology based on a combination of geophysical and geotechnical data in order to make recommendations for use in the offshore wind sector. The candidate will be in charge of the analysis of geotechnical and geophysical field measurement data.

Missions

Within the Offshore Renewable Energies (ORE) Farm Optimisation R&D Department, the candidate will be part of the DTOceanPlus team at France Energies Marines and will contribute to the development activities of the three modules, with particular focus on the Station Keeping module. The main activities involve the following:

  • Contribution to the development of the three DTOcean+ modules, with focus on the Station Keeping module;
  • Testing and debugging of the three DTOcean+ modules;
  • Identification, specification and implementation of further improvements of the three DTOcean+ modules, with focus on the Station Keeping module, by means of literature review and discussion with DTOCEANPLUS industrial partners;
  • Active participation to the discussions with the technical partners of DTOCEANPLUS;
  • Writing of reports, technical notes, software user manual and documentation.

Regarding GEOSISMEM project, the candidate will be in charge of the analysis of geotechnical and geophysical field measurement data.

 

Required Skills

Essential skills

  • Qualified knowledge of geotechnics
  • Numerical modelling of physical systems (e.g. seabed mechanics, seabed-foundation interaction, floating systems, mooring systems)
  • Code development and programming skills (python or similar)
  • Writing of reports and publications in scientific journals
  • Scientific rigor and critical analysis
  • Be curious, autonomous, organized and pro-active
  • Appreciate working in groups in a multidisciplinary approach

Desirable skills

  • Experience in the domain of mooring systems and foundations of offshore structures
  • Experience with design methods and tools for mooring systems and foundations
  • Experience in code development for numerical simulation
  • Knowledge in geophysics
  • Multidisciplinary and adaptability to new problematics
  • Knowledge in ORE systems
  • Good communication/redaction skills in English and French

Candidate profile

  • • Hold a Master, Engineering or PhD degree in geotechnics
  • 2-3 years of professional experience in an engineering environment involving above-mentioned disciplines and applied to the maritime industry (ideally ORE)
