Job Description

DYNAMO research project, coordinated by France Energies Marines, started in February 2020. This R&D project takes part in a wider scientific program dedicated to the design and monitoring of submarine power cables for ORE applications. This component has been identified as being one the most critical for the deployment of floating offshore wind energy, which is one of the pillars of the “Renewable energy” part of the French Multiannual Energy Programme.

DYNAMO gathers industrials that are leader in ORE (EDF, RTE, TOTAL) as well as some research organisms with complementary skills (ENSTA Bretagne, Université Gustave Eiffel, Université de Nantes, Ifremer). Being complementary with other research projects of the institute, DYNAMO is focused on techniques for monitoring dynamic cables, with the objective to provide industrials with a set of tools and methods for predictive maintenance of subsea power cables.

Missions

In this context, in partnership with industrial and academic partners (bringing their Return of Experience and their skills) and with France Energies Marines collaborators, the candidate will be in charge of:

  1. Working on the integration of a grid of sensors to a submarine cable network
  2. Writing synthesis reports and recommendations
  3. Contributing to specifications for the development of innovative sensors and monitoring techniques
  4. Supervising post-doctoral researcher on the topic of the monitoring of submarine cables

• Knowledge on technologies and/or materials for power cables components (ideally for dynamic subsea applications)

Desirable:
• Grid control and network integration
• Processing of instrument-collected data
• Structural Health Monitoring
• Knowledge in MRE systems

Work experience
At least 5 years in power cable industry, or certification body, or research institute, with an experience:
• as engineer in production, or manufacturing process, or electrical design, or qualification, of power cables
and possibly, an experience:
• in instrumentation of experiments and/or structures,
• in the domain of submarine power cables, their lifecycles and their instrumentation; knowledge on actual innovations and research activities in this area
